
Green Revolution and Punjab’s Agriculture: Growth, Challenges, and Future Prospects Introduction Punjab, often referred to as the "Granary of India," played a vital role in the Green Revolution during the 1960s and 70s. The Green Revolution introduced high-yielding variety (HYV) seeds, chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and improved irrigation methods, transforming Punjab into a major agricultural powerhouse. However, while the Green Revolution spurred a significant increase in agricultural output, it has also led to several environmental and socio-economic challenges that require immediate attention. In a recent survey conducted with 50 farmers in Punjab, several issues were identified, ranging from crop choices to water usage and financial distress.
